We’ve seen a lot of things happen in 2020, including a global pandemic, a social justice movement, and murder hornets! We’ve faced a lot of challenges as medical students such as being pulled from the clinical/educational environment and dismissed from many volunteering opportunities. However, so many of you have stepped up and been so proactive in leading projects, initiatives and organizations during this time to make an impact either in response to COVID-19 or in spite of it. Alternatively, maybe some of you have ideas that you want to start and lead, but need the guidance and funding to get your project off the ground!

MedECG, a student-led consulting group at UMMS, is organizing the virtual 2020 Student Leadership Symposium on Saturday, October 3rd from 9 AM to 1 PM. Here, you’ll get a chance to showcase your project’s work and win funding for your impact projects/ideas! We will also have networking opportunities for underclassmen to meet with upperclassmen to learn about leadership and get mentorship at UMMS. If you’re an upperclassman who wants to offer mentorship/networking opps, indicate that when you register to attend!

Presenting and $ Awards: The initiative(s) you’ve led during 2020 can be associated with a student org or independently led. We want to showcase projects from all disciplines, not only initiatives that are in response to the events 2020 has brought. Apply to present your project as a 3 minute poster presentation, and the top 2 projects will be offered the chance to do a 15 minute "TED Talk." You can add this presentation to your CV and we’ll be awarding three $100 prizes and four $50 prizes via audience polling to the top presentations!

To apply to present your project, fill out this form by Sunday, September 6th at midnight. One student can apply to present multiple projects and only one application is needed per project.

Attending and Grant Opportunities: By presenting or simply attending the Symposium, you/your org/your team will be eligible to apply to one of MedECG’s Student Leadership Grants. Only students who were at the Symposium will be able to apply! Grant funding prizes will be awarded for up to $500. More information will be provided at the conclusion of the symposium!

To register to attend and be eligible to apply for grant funding for your idea, register below. You must register to attend if you are a presenter.

MedECG is so excited to host this symposium and hear what you have been working on! If you have any questions, please email kavyad@med.umich.edu or arorakul@med.umich.edu!
